How My Business Thrives Through Word Of Mouth Referrals

Updated: Feb 4

Yep, seems crazy, I know, but I have been blessed to have clients who are happy and send their friends and neighbors my way. How do I do that?

The Rare Gift of Realness

Authenticity is rare these days. But in my work, it’s the only way. When parents talk to me, they’re not just sharing information; they’re sharing their hearts. Sometimes, they share things they haven’t even told their own family. That level of trust doesn’t happen by accident. It’s built on integrity, on the understanding that what they say stays with me, and that I’m not just listening, but truly hearing them.

I don’t interrupt. I don’t judge. I normalize their experiences—sometimes by sharing my own, sometimes by simply saying, “You’re not alone.” I let them know that others have walked this path too, even if no one talks about it.

Honesty, Heart, and Having Their Backs

I tell parents what I think, what’s worked for me—both in my professional experience and as a parent myself. My recommendations come from the heart, from knowing what works, not from a script or a sales pitch. And I’m the same way with their kids. They know I’ve got their back. They know I believe in them, and that what I ask of them is because I know they can do it. They can reach out to me anytime, not just about school, but about their accomplishments, their lives. I want to hear it all.

The Immediate Connection

There’s an energy to authenticity. It’s either there or it’s not. When it is, parents feel safe. They open up. The kids do too. And when parents are real with me, I’m real right back. I don’t overthink it; I just respond as myself. Honesty begets honesty.

Why Word of Mouth Works

People refer others to me because they’ve experienced something very

rare: a space where they can be themselves, where their struggles are met with understanding, and their children are seen and supported. It’s not about marketing or gimmicks. It’s about trust, realness, and the knowledge that I’m in this with them—every step of the way.
